How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted animals and animal welfare? Tune in at 10 a.m. for the first installment of the Let’s Talk About COVID-19 lecture series and find out.

Laurentian University and Science North have teamed up to give you a weekly dose of some good science from the comfort of your own home.

The public is welcome to tune into the six-week lecture series, each of which is being livestreamed on the Facebook pages of Science North and Laurentian University. Sudbury.com will be carrying the lectures live every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. as well.

“Local researchers will answer questions regarding COVID-19 and the work they are doing to support the pandemic,” a press release on the event states. “Each discussion will focus on a specific topic that will dive deeper into key aspects of COVID-19 and how they affect individuals, our planet and beyond.

There’s no need to pre-register and there is no cost to watch. Simply tune in and start learning.

Today’s seminar is on the role of animals and animal welfare when it comes to COVID-19. Science North Bluecoat Amy Henson will facilitate a discussion between Dr. Albrecht Schulte-Hostedde, Canada research chair in applied evolutionary biology at Laurentian, and Dr. Rod Jouppi, a veterinarian and the director of the animal care facility at Laurentian. He is also the founder and president of the Wild At Heart animal rehabilitation facility in Lively.
