Liberals’ Viviane Lapointe opens candidate office in Sudbury

Campaign office located at 450 Notre Dame Ave.

Sudbury Liberal candidate Viviane Lapointe celebrated the grand opening of her campaign office this week, opening the doors at 450 Notre Dame Avenue in Greater Sudbury (the former Pet Save thrift store location).

In a press release, she pledged to “run a safe campaign and maintain adherence to COVID protocols for the safety of the public and all volunteers.”

Lapointe was raised in Sudbury and has more than 20 years of health-care experience, most notably at Health Sciences North. Her most recent role has been as executive director at Community Living Greater Sudbury.

“I’m running for the Liberal party because it’s the party that will move our community forward,”  Lapointe said in the release. “The Liberal party wants to build a better future for Canadians, and I want to do the same for Sudbury.”

Lapointe’s campaign will focus on three main goals, according to the release, including:

  • Economic recovery and creating jobs in Sudbury
  • Ensuring bold action on climate change
  • Supporting seniors and young families

Lapointe was nominated as Sudbury’s Liberal candidate in July. The current Sudbury MP, the Liberals’ Paul Lefebvre, opted against seeking re-election.

In the Sudbury federal riding, Lapointe faces off against New Democrat Nadia Verrelli and Conservative Dr. Ian Symington

Elections Canada has yet to post a list of official candidates, but is expected to publish a complete list by Sept. 1. The nomination process for candidates closes Aug. 30.
