Watch: Candidates square off in Nickel Belt

Debate is hosted by Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce

Updated Oct. 11, 2019:

Sudbury.com apologizes for the technical difficulties during the livestream event of the Nickel Belt debate on Oct. 10.

We experienced connectivity issues when the event began and lost our internet feed during the first question period, which was ironically about broadband and the lack of high speed internet in the Nickel Belt area.

Thankfully, we had a backup plan and we were able to get the stream up before the second question period - which you can view in the video above.

If you'd like to watch the opening statements and the entire first question period, we've uploaded the raw camera footage here.

Original story:

On Oct 10, federal election candidates in Nickel Belt squared off in the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce federal election debate.

The Chamber hosted a debate for Sudbury candidates on Oct. 9.

This election, the chamber has invited only those federal candidates whose parties currently hold a seat in the House of Commons. Candidates for the People's Party of Canada were also invited.

In Nickel Belt, that includes Liberal incumbent Marc Serré, Conservative Aino Laamanen, the NDP's Stef Paquette and Casey Lalonde of the Greens.

Also running in Nickel Belt is Mikko Paavola of the People's Party of Canada.

Sudbury.com has also livestreamed a couple of other local debates over the last few days. You can watch the chamber's Sudbury riding debate and the Laurentian University political science association's debate through our website.
