The province has provided $3.1 million for Sudbury's three post-secondary schools to help support enrolment and programs for students.

Laurentian University is receiving about $1.5 million, Cambrian College about $1.2 million and Collège Boréal $449,777.

“We recognize our colleges and universities have experienced larger enrolment growth due to the current economic environment,” Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said, in a press release.

“Today’s additional funding will help all three of our local postsecondary institutions continue to provide our students with a quality education.”

The funding is part of the province's five-year Open Ontario plan to create new opportunities for jobs and economic growth.

“Our Open Ontario plan recognizes the importance of ensuring we have the highly skilled and educated workers we need to compete in the new economy,” Bartolucci said.

“Our government wants to ensure students receive the education they need to reach their full potential and succeed in the future.”
