United Way Sudbury and Nipissing District is providing $10,000 to the United Way Sault Ste. Marie and district’s Community Assistance Trust program to support those affected by the Elliot Lake mall disaster.

“We may represent different communities but we are neighbours and friends. So offering this assistance was the least we could do to help Elliot Lake’s residents in need,” Michael Cullen, executive director for United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts, said in a press release.

The Community Assistance Trust program provides assistance or referrals in the Algoma District with items or services that are emergency or extraordinary circumstances.

“We are also asking our corporate partners, friends, agencies and donors, to consider making a donation to further help residents in need,” Cullen said.

“United Way will accept any donations which will be directly earmarked to the Community Assistance Trust program for Elliot Lake.”

Those interested in donating are asked to contact Cullen at [email protected] or 705-929-9892 or Katina Matheson at [email protected] or 705-845-6506.
