In the meantime, the province’s online booking system is available for that age cohort to be vaccinated at a pharmacy clinic, though space is limited

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) is preparing to offer COVID-19 vaccines for younger residents and families. PHSD's website said the health unit is working with area school boards, First Nations, and urban Indigenous partners to schedule special COVID-19 vaccine clinics starting the week of June 7.

The youth and family initiative scheduled in June means that everyone who wishes to receive a vaccine will have the opportunity to do so. Vaccine is being dedicated for this purpose over a three-week period starting June 7. More details will be communicated soon, said the PHSD on its website.

The province has also announced that the provincial booking system is already opened to allow youth aged 12 and over to book an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. At this time, only limited spots will be available through the booking system, said the PHSD website.

The Ontario vaccine webpage has also outlined what vaccines are available for different age groups. Vaccine seekers can use the provincial online booking system to find a clinic, or to choose a pharmacy.

In Sudbury, younger residents can apply to book an appointment at any of the 20 local pharmacies that are providing vaccines.

If you are 12 or older on the day of your appointment you can apply to get the Pfizer vaccine.

And if you are 18 or older on the day of your appointment you can apply to get the Moderna vaccine.

Not all 20 of the pharmacies offer both choices. Some pharmacies are offering the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine only, while others are offering the Moderna vaccine only.

Younger vaccine seekers, aged 12 and over at the time of immunization and their eligible family members, can also telephone to book an appointment. Individuals can also help people who are eligible by calling to book an appointment on their behalf, said the health unit.

Call 705-674-2299 (toll-free: 1.800.708.2505), between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week.

Individuals must be aged 12 and over at the time of immunization to receive the vaccine.

In other vaccination services being offered, PHSD has created a COVID-19 vaccine standby list to help administer any remaining doses at the end of each clinic day.

The standby list is only for individuals who are currently eligible and have not yet received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, said the PHSD website vaccination page.

Everyone who is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine is still encouraged to book an appointment outside of the standby list. If a person is called from the standby list, their original appointment can be cancelled, said the webpage.

Registration for the standby list is online only. Please do not call Public Health Sudbury & Districts or the COVID-19 vaccine booking line to be added to the list, said PHSD.

Please check the dates of scheduled clinics before adding your name to the standby list to ensure there is a clinic scheduled that day.
