On May 2, the Lougheed Foundation brought smiles to Health Sciences North with a donation of Smile Cookies and coffee to staff at Health Sciences North (HSN).

The donation was made through the Health Sciences North Foundation.

“The Lougheed Family has a long and strong relationship with HSN that reaches back to the 1950s when we ran the ambulance in Sudbury,” says Gerry Lougheed. “We have been dedicated to the hospital and Cancer Center since they opened, and we are pleased to lend our support through the Cookie Campaign.

What defines HSN is not the buildings, it is the dedicated doctors, nurses, professionals, staff and volunteers who provide our community excellence in health care. We are proud to work with these wonderful people and hope the cookies bring them a smile to celebrate all the good they do.”

This is far from the first time the Lougheed Foundation has pitched in for HSN. In 2020 during the pandemic, the foundation donated $50,000 to the COVID-19 Support Fund launched by the Foundations at HSN, to help procure essential equipment for patients. They also provided coffee, donuts and breakfasts throughout the pandemic for hospital staff.

"The generosity of the Lougheed Foundation shows they're committed to supporting healthcare in our community and recognizing the amazing efforts of those who contribute," said Anthony Keating, president and CDO of the Foundations and Volunteer Groups at HSN.

Health Sciences North Foundation is one of the recipients of funds raised during Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Week, which ended May 5. The money raised will go towards supporting patient care, the foundation said.
