Love Your Lake program in full swing

The City of Greater Sudbury has launched the Love Your Lake program to landowners with shoreline property in Greater Sudbury.

Love Your Lake is a shoreline stewardship program that provides resources and training to local organizations to enable them to help landowners protect and restore their shorelines and improve the health of their lake.

“We are thrilled to offer this two-year pilot program to landowners in Greater Sudbury,” said Stephen Monet, manager of Environmental Planning Initiatives.

“Shoreline landowners can play a significant role and can have a huge impact on lakes and rivers. This program is designed to show those landowners best practices in helping to keep our waterways healthy.”

City staff will be out on local lakes evaluating specific shorelines throughout the city. The property information gathered will not be used for regulatory purposes, nor will it be shared with other government organizations.

The sole purpose of collecting the information is to share the results with the landowner. Landowners in these pre-selected areas have been contacted and advised of the program.

At the end of the summer, landowners will receive a personal assessment report via postal mail, complete with photos of the property and will identify actions residents can take on their property to contribute positively towards the health of the lake.

Residents with questions about Love Your Lake are asked to dial 311 or visit www.loveyourlake.ca.

The Love Your Lake program is in partnership with the Canadian Wildlife Federation (www.cwf-fcf.org) and the Centre for Sustainable Watersheds (www.watersheds.ca).
