The 12th annual Luncheon of Hope was held at the Caruso Club Sept. 24, and raised $42,000 for the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.
Tannys Laughren, executive director of the foundation, said the lunch event is one of the organization's key fundraisers, having brought in almost $400,000 since it began. The funds go towards breast cancer research and patient care at the Regional Cancer Program in Sudbury.
Northern Life is one of the sponsors of the event.
This year's keynote speaker was Carole Bertuzzi Luciani, an Orillia, Ont. woman who gave a humerous presentation about the power of positive thinking.
Dr. Amadeo Parissenti, a researcher at the Regional Cancer Program in Sudbury, spoke about the advances being made in breast cancer research and treatment in Sudbury.
