The Sudbury and District Health Unit announced today that it does not recommend swimming at Kagawong Village Beach on Manitoulin Island at this time.

The Sudbury and District Health Unit announced today that it does not recommend swimming at Kagawong Village Beach on Manitoulin Island at this time.

Warning signs were posted at the beach after routine water samples taken by the health unit exceeded the acceptable water quality standards for bathing beaches.

“We have enhanced our monitoring and will continue taking water samples at Kagawong Village Beach,” said Mike Campbell, a public health inspector with the health unit’s Environmental Health Division, in a news release.

The public will be notified when the bacterial levels are at acceptable levels.
