Mayor Brian Bigger received his test results from Public Health Sudbury and District Saturday, indicating that he does not have the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Bigger had been working from "afar" since March 11, following news that a fellow attendee of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto, had tested positive for the infection.

“I am relieved and will be returning to work immediately, but making measured decisions as to the amount of activity and interaction that is required at this time," said Bigger in the release.

"I am also thinking of those who are or may be ill. My thoughts are with all of our community members at this time."

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré and Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre also attended the PDAC conference and underwent testing as a result. Both parties announced through their respective Facebook pages Friday, to have tested negative for COVID-19.

"I wish to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who reached out with kind words and well wishes," said Serré in his post.

Lefebvre had begun experiencing minor symptoms Tuesday, he shared in his post but is happy to report that he has tested negative for the virus. He will be continuing his work for Sudbury locally, while the House of Commons is under suspension.

The Mayor would like to remind all residents to remain vigilant in their practice of simple, preventative methods such as handwashing, not touching your face, covering your cough or sneeze, disposing of used tissue, and avoiding contact with others if you or they become sick.

In the statement released Saturday, he also expressed his support and appreciation for all of the people in public health, Health Sciences North and the many front-line workers and staff who work day and night during these "extraordinary times."

"This is a serious matter – please get your information from reliable sources. As well, let’s all keep an eye on ourselves, our loved ones and each other," he went on to say.

"If you are sick, call your doctor or public health. Please do not go to the hospital. Let's work together so we can all remain healthy and strong in Greater Sudbury."
