Mayoral candidate Cody Cacciotti has a six-step strategy to improve the roads in Greater Sudbury.

Cacciotti says that planning more efficiently is a key in ensuring that citizens are getting the most for their tax dollar when it comes to roads. In addition, he has a six-step plan in place if elected that he says he will ensure is followed in order to improve road quality in the city.

The state of our roads continues to be a hotly contested issue for many citizens as the election quickly approaches.

It is no surprise that citizens are dissatisfied with both the state of our roads and the way in which we go about repairing them.

In addition to planning projects more efficiently to ensure that citizens are seeing the greatest return on their tax dollar, there are other strategies we can look to implement immediately which will improve the services the city is providing.

As mayor I will work with staff to ensure that;

1) We are ensuring that sewer / water and roads work together. This way we don't have do-overs.
2) We are assessing roads throughout the city on an ongoing basis to ensure that the worst roads are being addressed accordingly.
3) Projects need to be shovel ready for upcoming funding opportunities.
4) Information is provided to citizens updating the status of road projects with consistent progress reports.
5) Front line workers are given more freedom to complete minor repairs and fill potholes prior to a 311 complaint.
6) Create a roads panel made up of staff, council and citizens to ensure the proper planning and management of public projects are fair, transparent and completed on time and on budget.

There is no excuse when it comes to the current condition of our roads. It's time to get the City of Greater Sudbury on the road to cost effective and planned repair.
