Mayoral candidate Jeff Huska says Sudbury Transit should have a route that extends all the way out to Kivi Park.
“Kivi Park isn’t for everyone and that’s unfortunate,” Huska said. “I agree people from all areas of Greater Sudbury enjoy the park, but it seems limited to only those that can drive there.”
City transit buses, Huska said in a release to media this week, do not go past the Walmart on Long Lake Road.
“As a matter of fact, Walmart/Countryside Rd is the end of the line going south for Greater Sudbury Transit. If this city truly wants to become a healthier community, then let’s start by making the transit line continue south along Long Lake Road to Kivi Park and have the buses turn around there,” he said. “By adding a mere 5.5 km you are inviting a much larger group of people to a facility promoting healthy lifestyles.”
Further, Huska said, the city invested in transit buses with bike racks on the front, yet surprisingly, he said, none of them will get you to Kivi, which has a wealth of trails to explore.
“If a healthier community is what we want, then the city should insure facilities such as Kivi Park are available to everyone,” and Huska.
Jeff Huska said he thinks places like Kivi Park are under-utilized in the city because Greater Sudbury’s transit system “fails many of its residents by not including the park in the city’s transit route.”
He vowed that within “the first six months of being elected,” Huska will revisit the South End bus route and have Kivi Park added as the last stop on Long Lake Road.
