Meals On Wheels Sudbury continues to deliver

Recent media reports have told how soaring gas prices are contributing to the closure of a Meals on Wheels service in British Columbia and is potentially threatening similar services across the country.

People in the Greater Sudbury area, who receive services from Meals On Wheels, will continue to receive their deliveries uninterrupted, despite rising gas prices, a press release stated.

"Although the ever-increasing cost of gas is a concern for us, it certainly will not stop us from serving our clients," said Russel DeCou, executive director of Meals On Wheels, Sudbury. "We have not lost a single volunteer due to high gas prices. Our volunteers do not incur any out of pocket expenses for fuel in their deliveries."

Aside from outside challenges such as rising gas prices, local community support services, like Meals On Wheels, continue to work hard to ensure the program remains viable, the press release stated.

"Our biggest challenge today is finding volunteers on whom we rely heavily to help us carry out our programs," said DeCou. "Our volunteer base is getting older and right now we are really in need of finding a way to motivate a younger generation of volunteers to help out within our community."

Meals On Wheels is proud to serve the City of Greater Sudbury and its surrounding areas. Every week, hundreds of people receive delicious and healthy meals thanks to the Meals On Wheels home delivery service.
