OPSEU Local 677 members voted 78 percent Nov. 5 for their first contract.

If the tentative agreement is approved Nov. 9 by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) board of directors, the 81 day long strike will be over at Sudbury and Thunder Bay campus locations.

Workers made the right decision to endorse the tentative contract, Tyler England, chair of the bargaining team, said.

“Our members waited patiently for the right deal to come along and today's (Nov. 5) agreement was the one they were prepared to support in a democratic fashion.”

“First contracts are always the toughest to settle,” OPSEU president Warren Thomas said.

Details of the agreement will be released pending approval by NOSM's board of directors.
