Mayoral candidate Dan Melanson is proposing the creation of a council and employee liaison committee that will encourage front-line workers and contractors to share ideas and suggestions on improving the city's operations.
"It's been my experience, that if you really want to find out what's going on in the city, or a business, you talk to the front-line workers, and get their opinions on things. And nine times out of ten you'll get information that you might otherwise seek out through the use of consultants, which is something I think is overused by the city in this point in time" Melanson said.
Melanson released the idea Sept. 24 as part of his platform to make Greater Sudbury the most efficient and cost effective municipal corporation in Canada, he said in a news release.
“It's an attitude or a way of operating that's been pervasive at the city for a number of years, where there's a total lack of vertical involvement between upper management and actual people who are doing the work, and as a result you get that disconnect,” Melanson said. “I've always found it most useful to talk to the guys that are actually doing the job. ”
