Staff and students at Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School participate in the school's annual fundraising memorial walk in memory of Mackenzie Rooney and Dennis Dechaine Sept. 29.

"Mackenzie was a student who loved life, who was always smiling and who was very creative and artistic," said a news release from the school.

"Her life was cut too short in a tragic ATV accident in August 2012. Dennis was a teacher at Bishop who supported and encouraged at risk students. His love for automotive and technology courses was contagious for students."

The walk is an opportunity to remember Rooney and Dechaine, and to raise money for their scholarship fund as well as to support other activities that she enjoyed within the school.

Students will also be asked to walk in memory of a loved one that has passed away.

They'll canvassing the community for donations from Sept. 14 to 28 with the goal of raising $10,000.

The walk begins at 8:30 a.m. with a memorial tribute and a Zumba warm-up. Students will then leave the school at around 9 a.m.

The afternoon will be full of fun events such as karaoke and a teacher vs. student flag football game.

Money raised will be going towards Mackenzie’s and Dennis’ scholarship fund, KICX for Kids and other charities within the community.
