Women In Mining Northern Ontario's latest initiative kicks off Thursday evening with its inaugural Elevate event.

Elevate is a new mentorship program that gives women in the mining sector – or those interested to enter the industry – access to industry professionals as they discuss important topics to help newcomers get their foot through the mining sector door.

“This mentorship program will provide women with resources – education, networking – to help them make choices in this career,” said Women In Mining Northern Ontario president Charmaine Gazdic-Querney. “Elevate encourages and empowers women to make informed decisions based on the information they get through the program.”

The first event, which takes place at the Vale Living with Lakes Centre from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. will focus on career planning and continuing education.

Speakers will include human resources specialist Marcel Faggioni, president of Integrity Management Consulting Group; Brian Vaillancourt, dean of Collège Boréal's School of Trades and Technology; and Samantha Espley, director of mines, mills and technical services for Vale's Ontario operations.

Future Elevate events will focus on work-life balance, teamwork and leadership.

Tickets for each event can be purchased at the door, or in advance through Women In Mining Northern Ontario's membership page, and are $15 for members or non- members, and $10 students.
