After a successful inaugural year in 2014, the North America Mining Expo in Sudbury expands to a larger this year.

“We basically outgrew the Hanmer facility,” said Glenn Dredhart, president of Canadian Tradex, which organizes the conference.

The expo, which runs Aug. 19 and 20, will feature more than 300 exhibits at the McLelland Arena in Copper Cliff, and the adjacent Copper Cliff Curling Club.

Dredhart said more than 230 companies are scheduled to take part in the event, which will present excellent networking opportunities so they can expand their markets.

He expects delegations from Australia, India, Chile, Peru and South Africa to come to Sudbury for the event.

A gala dinner on Tuesday, Aug. 18 will precede the expo and double as a fundraiser for Modern Mining and Technology Sudbury.

Dredhart said Sudbury's mining technology expertise will be on full display during the event.

The Northern Centre for Advanced Technology Inc. (NORCAT) will offer tours to its underground mining technology testing centre in Onaping on Aug. 19 and 20.

Sudbury-based mining supplier Tracks and Wheels Equipment Brokers will have live demonstrations of its newest equipment.

The expo will also feature jack-leg drilling competitions, welding competitions, and an Aboriginal pavilion.
