CVRD Inco has donated $5,000 to pay for traditional teaching circles being put on during this year's Little Native Hockey League tournament.
The Little NHL tournament, which is being held March 11-15 in Greater Sudbury, involves about 5,000 players and supporters. It is estimated to inject $5 million into the city's economy.
“The Little NHL tournament has a rich 36 year legacy and provides a major economic boost to the local economy,” said Cory McPhee, CVRD Inco's manager of external relations, in a press release.
“But more than the considerable economic impact, it brings together First Nation youth from across the province and provides a unique opportunity to highlight and promote understanding of traditional First Nation culture.
“By supporting a series of traditional teaching circles, never before offered in the event's history, CVRD Inco is hoping to enhance the tournament experience for all participants on the ice and off."
