More than 200,000 Canadians are affected by Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, and the number is "rapidly" growing.

There is currently no known cure, but M&M Meat Shops is hoping to change that. On May 12, M&Ms across Canada are taking part in the 24th annual charity barbecue day.

To help support the fight against Crohn's and Colitis, residents are asked to buy lunch from the M&Ms tent.

Proceeds raised through the sale of burgers and hotdogs will go to support the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada's Irritable Bowel Disease (CCFC IBD) Research Institute.

Through barbecues and other fundraising iniatives, more than $21.5 million has been raised for the cause; this year, M&Ms is hoping to bring in another $1.5 million.
