More road projects underway

Several new road construction and maintenance projects are taking place within the city. According to the City of Greater Sudbury, new projects include: - M.R. 80, Dominion Dr. to Dutrisac Blvd.
Several new road construction and maintenance projects are taking place within the city.

According to the City of Greater Sudbury, new projects include:

- M.R. 80, Dominion Dr. to Dutrisac Blvd., Val Thérèse: Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction on M.R. 80, between Dominion Drive and Dutrisac Boulevard in Val Thérèse, for asphalt resurfacing. Work is expected to be complete by June 15.

- Barry Downe Rd., Lasalle Blvd. to Cambrian College: Intermittent northbound and southbound curb lane closures on Barry Downe Road, from Lasalle to Cambrian College,for curb and asphalt replacement. Work is expected to be complete by June 15 or earlier.

- Elgin St., Durham St. to Cedar St., Sudbury: Expect intermittent lane closures on Elgin Street between Cedar and Durham Streets for grinding and asphalt replacement. Work is expected to be complete by June 11.

- Lorraine/Kent/O’Grady, Sudbury: Lane closures for asphalt resurfacing will start June 8 on Lorraine Street, Kent Court and O’Grady Street in Sudbury. Work is expected to be complete in approximately three weeks.

- Bancroft Dr., Levesque St. to Moonlight Ave., Sudbury: Bancroft Drive will close to through traffic, between Levesque and Estelle Streets, from June 11 to July 6. Motorists may detour via Levesque or Estelle Street to Rheal Street and Moonlight Avenue. Access will be maintained on Bancroft Drive for local traffic and emergency vehicles. This summer marks the second and final phase of major construction on Bancroft Drive to widen the road and replace municipal infrastructure.

- Latimer Cres., Loach’s Rd. to Hunter St., Sudbury: Latimer Crescent will close to through traffic from June 11 to July 21, between Loach’s Road and Oriole Drive, for a water main replacement and sanitary sewer improvements. Access will be maintained for local traffic and emergency vehicles.

- Kirkwood/Lake Point/Gennings, Sudbury: Intermittent lane closures on Kirkwood Drive, Lake Point Court and Gennings Street until approximately June 20, to gather data for future capital improvements.

- Havenbrook Dr., Sudbury: Havenbrook Drive will close to through traffic, from June 11 to approximately June 15, for infrastructure improvements. Access will remain open for local traffic and emergency vehicles.

- Oscar St., Hanmer: Expect lane closures for installation of a water main and sanitary sewer on Oscar Street in Hanmer. Work is expected to be complete by late July 2012.

- Winchester Ave., Sudbury: A water main and sanitary sewer main repair and replacement capital renewal program, including new surface asphalt, is complete on Winchester Avenue. Minor restoration work will be completed this summer.

ONGOING:

- Robinson Dr., Southview Dr. to Kelly Lake Rd., Sudbury: Robinson Drive is reduced to one lane between Southview and Kelly Lake Road for water and sanitary sewer main renewal. Work will continue to fall 2012. Surface asphalt is scheduled for the following year.

- Brady and Douglas St., Ontario St. to railway underpass: Construction is underway on Douglas and Brady Streets, from Ontario Street to the CPR underpass. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction for water main lining, storm sewer improvements, asphalt, curb and sidewalk replacement.

- Fairbank Lake Rd. (M.R. 4): Work is underway for the reconstruction of Fairbank Lake Road (M.R. 4) from Highway 17 to C. Johnson Road. Access through the nine-kilometre construction site will be maintained at all times with minor delays at work sites and during blasting activities. By the end of the 2012 construction season, the road will be partially paved with intermittent gravel sections.

- Lavoie St., Mayfair Ct. to Montrose Ave., Sudbury: Construction is underway on Lavoie Street. Expect lane closures between Mayfair and Montrose for a water main renewal project, and from Drummond Ave. to Montrose for new surface asphalt.

- M.R. 55 at Hwy. 17, Lively: The Ontario Ministry of Transportation advises motorists of lane closures for bridge and ramp restoration at the intersection of Highway 17 and M.R. 55 near Lively. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction on M.R. 55 in the vicinity of the entrance and exit ramps to Highway 17. Maximum speed is reduced to 70 km/h.

- Hwy. 17 at M.R. 55, Whitefish: The Ontario Ministry of Transportation advises motorists of lane closures for road and CPR overpass rehabilitation on Highway 17 West, near the M.R. 55 intersection. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction, approximately two kilometres on either side of the railway bridge. Maximum speed is reduced to 80 km/h.
