Cambrian College is adding a three-year animation program to its list of disciplines.

Cambrian president Sylvia Barnard and Sheridan College president Robert Turner recently signed an agreement to have Sheridan’s internationally-renowned animation program offered at the Sudbury college.

Through this agreement, Cambrian will use and deliver Sheridan College’s curriculum for the advanced diploma program in animation, providing students with the opportunity to access the established program, which has been recognized for its creative excellence. The focus of the program will be on traditional animation, drawing, storytelling, and 2D and 3D digital animation.

The three-year animation advanced diploma program responds to employment demands for skilled animators and fosters and expands the educational and career opportunities for northern Ontario youth interested in media and design, stated a news release. The program expands the media and design programs offered at Cambrian and makes it the northern Ontario centre for media and design education.

In addition to providing Cambrian with its animation curriculum and extended course outlines, Sheridan will help in the development and implementation of an ongoing quality assurance process.

“We are excited to be bringing Sheridan’s renowned animation expertise to the north,” said Cambrian College president Sylvia Barnard in the news release. “The demand for animation specialists is growing across sectors ranging from entertainment and the arts to industry and health care. To be able to respond by delivering a proven product will position us nicely to move into this field very quickly and to add to the social and economic growth of our community and the north.”
