The City of Greater Sudbury has announced that a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is now in place with CUPE Local 4705, representing approximately 1,500 municipal employees.

One of the key outcomes achieved by the bargaining teams is an increase in flexibility and expansion of hours to improve services offered to citizens.

Included in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is a general wage increase of 1 per cent effective April 1, 2016; 1.35 per cent effective April 1, 2017; and 1.5per cent effective April 1, 2018.

"On behalf of Council, I want to thank all members of both bargaining teams, who have worked extremely hard in pursuit of an agreement,” said Mayor Brian Bigger.

“I am pleased that the new deal allows us to focus on continuing to deliver high quality customer service to our community.”

The tentative agreements were ratified on June 29 by employees in CUPE Local 4705 Inside and Outside units. The new agreement is a three-year deal, expiring on March 31, 2019.

“We believe that the various outcomes, both monetary and non-monetary, strike a balance between an organization responsive to citizens and focused on fiscal sustainability, and a concern about meeting the needs of our employees,” said Joanne Kelly, co-ordinator of organizational development, who led the City’s bargaining team through the negotiation process.

“I want to thank our Union partners for their work throughout this process: together, we have shown commitment to citizen service and continued employee wellness.”
