Greater Sudbury could soon have a new microbrewery, if a zoning amendment is approved later this month by the planning committee.

Owners of the Taphouse on Regent Street are applying to have the zoning of their property amended to allow for a 116-square-metre space converted into a brewery.

The site is occupied by a 43-room hotel – the Cardinal Inn – and two restaurants. The parking area can accommodate 121 parking spaces, so parking isn't a concern in the approvals process.

Staff is recommending the plan be approved, and no city agency has any concerns about the proposal. No one living the area has objected, either by letter or phone calls, to the proponent or city staff.

A decision will be made at the Sept. 10 planning meeting.
