While it's been open since May 6, a $1,000 cheque presentation to the Sudbury Food Bank helped mark the grand opening of Mary Brown’s Famous Chicken & Taters in Greater Sudbury on Aug. 26.

Mary Brown's really makes an emphasis on giving back to the community, said co-franchisee Norm Cardinal. He runs Mary Brown's alongside Kelly Moran.
“(This donation) shows that we really want to be part of this community,” he said.

He said he believes the two organizations share a similar vision, in that they both want to give back to the community.

“It's good people giving to good people, and that's what we want to be part of,” Cardinal said.

What sets Mary Brown's apart from the competition?

“May Brown's delivers an awesome product, and it's 100 per cent Canadian,” he said. Everything is made fresh and from scratch. Come eat here, and you'll see the difference.”

It's been just over three months since Mary Brown's first opened its doors in Greater Sudbury, and it was time to celebrate, Cardinal said. The event offered up special deals on favourite menu items to special guests to games and prizes.

The highlight of the day was 25 prizes of Free Big Marys for a whole year.

Mary Brown’s Famous Chicken & Taters started in Newfoundland in 1969 and now numbers more than 135 locations nationally.
