In order for people to safely pass under the train tracks on the new Copper Cliff Trail, a culvert was installed.

Rainbow Routes Association, a non-profit agency with the goal of developing and promoting non-motorized trails in Greater Sudbury, is building several new trails in the city this summer.

The Copper Cliff Trail will allow cyclists and pedestrians to safely trek between the turnoff to Balsam St. and the west end of Kelly Lake Rd. Work is currently underway on this project, which runs along the side of Regional Road 55.

Work is set to begin on the Robinson Lake Trail, which will connect Robinson Playground on Cranbrook Cr. to Nova St. (a new development near Arnold St.). Keep an eye out for the centrepiece of this trail, a long boardwalk through the wetlands adjacent to the playground.

To celebrate Rainbow Routes' 10th anniversary, it will be hosting a party on Sept. 21. The party will begin at 1 p.m. in Copper Cliff Park and continue until 3 p.m. The Copper Cliff Trail will be officially opened at this event.

Rainbow Routes is also involved in a new project called History Hikes. Pamphlets about the history of buildings in the downtown, Flour Mill and Capreol areas are available online as downloadable PDF files.

Similar pamphlets about Copper Cliff and the John St./Lourdes Grotto will be added this summer.
