No cases to report today, but region saw two more recoveries

Public Health Sudbury & Districts has no new active cases to report today, but did report two more recoveries in the pandemic status update for Dec. 28.

There are now nine active cases in the region. Health Sciences North also reported one person has been hospitalized with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

The total case count climbed by four to 266, as stated in the Dec. 27 update.

Of the four new cases announced Dec. 27, three occurred in Greater Sudbury, with one occurring within the Sudbury District. In terms of source of exposure, three of the cases resulted from close contact with a confirmed case, while the fourth was travel-related.

No other demographic data about the new cases was released.

Public Health Ontario did not provide an update for Dec. 28, but on Dec. 27 the agency reported 2,005 new cases of COVID-19. 

The Dec. 27 report also includes 18 new deaths, 14 of whom were residents of long-term care homes. Four of the deaths reported today were individuals between 60 and 79 years old, and 14 were over the age of 80.

In Sunday’s report, Ontario stated at least 56 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 and 11 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 171,416 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 147,178  recoveries and 4,377 deaths. 

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 1,153.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario. The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 108.7 cases per 100,000 people from Dec. 16 to Dec. 22, which is up by 8.1 per cent compared to Dec. 10-16 when the average weekly incidence rate was 97.7 cases per 100,000 people.
