With new public health restrictions recently brought in by Public Health Sudbury & Districts due to COVID-19 comes the cancellation of a popular local Christmas Day event.

This is the second year in a row the No One Eats Alone Dinner has had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. What would have been the sixth annual event was to be held at Northbury Hotel and Conference Centre on Brady Street.

Organizers were still planning to go ahead with the event last week, before PHSD announced new public health restrictions due to a local surge in COVID cases.

“It’s with great sadness we regret to announce we have to cancel No One Eats Alone on Christmas day due to the rising number of COVID cases,” said the event’s organizer, Ward 2 Coun. Michael Vagnini, on his Facebook page.

“We met with the chief inspector for the COVID compliance and have been advised against proceeding with this year's festivities.”

He said organizers will continue to provide turkeys and other donations to clients of Walden Food Bank and other persons in need.

“We will miss seeing all of you and optimistically look forward to continuing with our tradition next year,” Vagnini said. “God bless from our families to yours.”
