No schools will be closed or merged in the Sudbury Catholic District School Board's east planning area — for now.
The school board made its decision about the schools at a meeting May 25 at its offices, located at Marymount Academy.
An accommodation review committee set up by the school board presented three options to the board in March, two of which included bringing several elementary schools together in a new facility.
Pius XII Catholic Elementary School, St. Albert Adult Learning Centre, St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School, St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School, St. Charles College, St. John Catholic Elementary School, St. Mark Catholic Elementary School, St. Paul Catholic Elementary School and St. Raphael Catholic Elementary School were all examined by the accommodation review committee.
However, the school board's director of education, Catherine McCullough, recommended that board members not proceed with the consolidation of schools because it would be difficult to get the necessary capital funding from the province.
On May 25, the school board also voted in favour of possibly moving some Grade 7 and 8 students to St. Charles College in the future, and asking McCullough to continue talking to the Ministry of Education to advocate for capital funds for these schools.
