The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation makes it appealing for movie makers to shoot north of Parry Sound.

On Sept. 14, Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci announced $644,058 in funding for Jason Priestley's directorial debut Cas & Dylan.

“By investing in film and television projects in Sudbury and Northern Ontario, our government is creating local jobs and helping more northerns build careers and develop skills and experience in the industry,” Bartolucci said.

Mark Montefiore, the producer of Cas & Dylan, said the region has welcomed his crew with “open arms.”

“We would not have been able to shoot our film in the north without the support of the province,” he said. “I look forward to bringing more projects to Sudbury and Northern Ontario.”

Cas & Dylan stars Richard Dreyfuss and Tatiana Maslany. The film tells the tale of a 61-year-old doctor who, dying and looking to end his life on his own terms, somehow ends up on the run with a young woman played by Maslany.

It is one of many projects recently supported by the NOFHC. Others include the TV series Dark Rising, and the feature films Split Decision and The Lesser Blessed.
