Nominations now open for the Canada Volunteer awards

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré announced a chance to celebrate deserving volunteers in the Nickel Belt area

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré has announced that nominations are now open for the Canada Volunteer awards, a chance to celebrate deserving volunteers in the Nickel Belt area. Nominations are accepted until March 4th.

This program supports the recognition of contributions made by individuals, not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises and businesses in communities across the country.

The goal of the awards is to inspire Canadians from all walks of life to find new ways of making a difference in their communities.

“Highlighting the achievements and impact of Nickel Belt – Greater Sudbury volunteers remains so important,” Serré stated in a press release.

“Since my election I’ve hosted three rounds of the MP Volunteer Recognition Awards. Through this we’ve celebrated over 60 people throughout the riding for their role in community service. They were nominated by those around them, and stories of hope, compassion and profound dedication were shared. Too often volunteers’ actions remain behind the scenes and these passionate individuals do not receive the credit they deserve.”

Nominations can be made in 5 different categories:

National award

  • Thérèse Casgrain Lifelong Achievement Award

Nominees in this category are dedicated individuals who have volunteered for at least 20 years and have inspired other volunteers, led volunteer groups, or made other exceptional achievements through volunteering.

Regional awards

  •  Community Leader
  •  Emerging Leader
  •  Business Leader
  •  Social Innovator

The award recipients will be recognized at an award ceremony, where they will receive a pin and a certificate signed by the Prime Minister. In addition, regional award recipients will be eligible to identify a not-for-profit organization to receive a $5,000 grant. The national award recipient will be eligible to identify a not-for-profit organization to receive a $10,000 grant.
