North's largest LCBO uncorked in south end

The LCBO opened its largest store in northern Ontario in Sudbury’s south end, Nov. 9.

Located at 2400 Long Lake Road at Gateway Road, the 12,000 square foot store has more than 8,100 square feet of display space – 53 per cent more than the Algonquin Road store, which it replaces. It also offers close to 2,500 products in total – almost 700 more than the Algonquin Road store.

“This new store significantly increases service in the south end and will provide one-stop shopping for Sudbury residents,” said LCBO President & CEO Bob Peter.

Joining Mr. Peter for the opening were Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk and Action Sudbury Chair Ron Roy.

“I'm pleased to take part in the opening of this impressive new store that matches LCBO products and services with the evolving tastes of our growing population,” said Mayor Matichuk. 

Among the new store’s many features are a large Ontario wine section with almost 200 VQA wines and a Vintages fine wine and premium spirits section offering 470 products – 170 more than then former outlet. The store also features a large walk-in cold room for beer and ready-to-drink cocktails and coolers, mixed-drink displays, a gift section and a portable tasting bar.

“Providing responsible service, whether at the checkout or by recommending tips on responsible hosting, is at the heart of LCBO and it’s clearly reflected in this store,” said Mr. Roy. ”Well-trained LCBO staff play an important role in keeping alcohol out of the hands of minors and intoxicated individuals who might try to drink and drive.”
