Réseau ACCESS Network will be host a community event and barbecue to launch Overdose Awareness Week in Greater Sudbury on Monday, Aug. 27.

The event will take place in Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature guest speakers from community organizations, people who have been directly affected by overdose, as well as information tables, drummers, an interactive community art project and on-site naloxone training and overdose prevention education.

"Overdose does not discriminate,” said a news release from Réseau ACCESS Network.

“It is not an issue that only affects larger cities. In 2017, between January and September in the City of Greater Sudbury, 30 of our friends, neighbours, family members and loved ones lost their lives due to preventable overdose.

“By hosting this event, Réseau ACCESS Network is bringing the community together in an effort to fight the overdose epidemic and the stigma surrounding people who use drugs, through advocacy, education, compassion and unity."
