On Wednesday, officers with the Manitoulin OPP were called to a drowning at a public beach on Tobacco Lake in Gordon Township.

When they arrived, police found a person performing artificial respiration on a woman. Police began performing CPR.

The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance, where she was pronounced dead.

The OPP said an investigation confirmed there’s nothing suspicious about the woman’s death, but an autopsy will be performed to determine her exact cause of death.

The woman has been identified as Penny Chmielak, 56, of Gore Bay.
