More than 50 political leaders from across Ontario visited health-care facilities last week for the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario’s (RNAO) annual Take your MPP to Work event.

The politicians also visited health units, community health centres, hospitals, and long-term care homes last week, which was Nursing Week, in an effort to better understand the vital role this province’s registered nurses (Rns) and registered nurses in the extended class (RNECs) play in our health care system.

The MPPs gave their time to learn more about nurses’ responsibilities, including: providing care for the sick and elderly; focusing on health promotion to keep clients healthier, longer; and managing and preventing patients’ chronic disease symptoms.

France Gélinas, MPP for Nickel Belt and NDP Health Critic, visited the Walden branch of the City of Lakes Family Health Team June 5 as part of this event.

In attendance were RNs and RN(EC)s. In addition to this event, the Sudbury Chapter of RNAO, in conjuction with the Sudbury Mining Week Committee and ONA, hosted a Nursing Week celebration at Bryston’s.
