Public Health Sudbury & Districts (PHSD) revealed Monday that one new COVID-related death has occurred in the Sudbury health jurisdiction since last Wednesday. PHSD did not report any statistics on Friday, which was Remembrance Day.

This means that seven COVID-related related deaths have been reported already in November. The total COVID-related fatality count since March of 2020 is currently listed at 192 deaths.

The death reported in Monday's daily summary was said to have occurred in the rural Sudbury district, and while COVID-19 contributed to the death, it was not deemed as the underlying cause of death.

PHSD also reported 81 new cases of COVID were reported since Wednesday's summary. The summary also revealed that as of Monday the total number of COVID cases in the past two years and eight months is 20,681. Most of those cases — 20,505 — have been resolved in the past two years and eight months. Also, the majority of those cases (6,748) have involved citizens in the 20 to 39 age group.

PHSD also reported there were 10 active outbreaks in the local jurisdiction Monday, occurring in local long-term care homes, retirement homes and other congregate settings.

At Health Sciences North on Monday there were 29 patients with confirmed cases of COVID being treated with one patient assigned to the Intensive Care Unit. This is up from the 23 cases reported on Friday.

The hospital also reported that as of November 11, there are still three active COVID outbreaks in the following units:

  • COVID-19 outbreak on level 4 of the North tower, RLHC (declared October 7, 2022).
  • COVID-19 outbreak on the Addictions Medicine Unit (AMU), Lodge 3, RLHC (declared October 31, 2022).
  • COVID-19 outbreak on the Reactivation Care Unit (RCU), Lodge 2, RLHC (declared November 7, 2022).

The hospital also reminds the public that units where there is an active COVID outbreak have no Designated Care Partners/Visitors allowed. An exception may be considered for compassionate reasons or end-of-life.

Also, as of November 14, 2022 the COVID Risk Index for Sudbury remains in the High category.
