Ontario daily case total jumps again over previous day, 1,426 new cases reported

Public Health Ontario has again reported a record number of new COVID cases with 1,426 new confirmed cases included in today's update. 

Including today, the past five days have seen the five highest daily case counts ever reported in the province. 

The province's public health agency has also confirmed 15 more deaths, including four people between 60 and 79 years old, and 11 people over the age of 80. Seen of the people who died were residents of long-term care homes. 

There have been 30 people hospitalized with the coronavirus since yesterday and three COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units. 

There were 198 new school-related cases reported today, including 116 students, 21 staff, and 61 unidentified cases. There have been 3,063 school-related cases reported by the province to date, and 1,033 of those cases were reported within the last 14 days. 

Of the 1,426 new cases reported today, 81 are individuals over the age of 80, 173 are individuals between 60 and 79 years old, 408 are individuals between 40 and 59 years old, 536 are individuals between 20 and 39 years old, and 223 are individuals under 19 years old. 

Based on a breakdown of cases by health unit provided by Public Health Ontario, 384 of today's cases are from Toronto, 468 are from Peel, 180 are from York, and 63 are from Durham Region. 

There were 36,707 COVID tests processed since yesterday's report, and there are 34,460 tests awaiting processing. 

According to provincial data, 5.7 of the people tested for COVID-19 test positive. The province's goal, according to the COVID-19 Response Framework, is to keep the positivity rate under three per cent.

There are 10,631 active, lab-confirmed cases in Ontario currently, and 424 of those cases are hospitalized. There are 88 COVID patients in intensive care units and 57 COVID patients on ventilators.

  • Algoma Public Health: 57 cases, rate of 48.9 per 100,000 population. There are 11 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 10.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 51 cases reported by health unit, rate of 37 per 100,000 population. There are three known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 10.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 102 cases reported by health unit, rate of 121 per 100,000 population. There are three known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 11.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 186 cases reported by health unit, rate of 88.4 per 100,000 population. There are 56 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 10.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 17 cases, rate of 52 per 100,000. There are no known active cases. The last case was reported Oct. 5.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 82 cases reported by health unit, including two probable cases, rate of 91.2 per 100,000. There are five known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 9.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 140 cases reported by health unit, rate of 88 per 100,000. There are 23 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 10.
