Ottawa players travel to Sudbury for exhibition games

Competitive teams in Sudbury, from a whole variety of different sports, are quite used to travelling south in search of top-end competition. That is precisely why locals are so appreciative when someone returns the favour.

Competitive teams in Sudbury, from a whole variety of different sports, are quite used to travelling south in search of top-end competition.

That is precisely why locals are so appreciative when someone returns the favour.

The Sudbury Peewee "A" Lady Wolves were in exactly that position over the weekend. With North Bay native Joe Greco behind the bench, the Nepean Peewee "A" Wildcats decided to combine business and pleasure on a three-day northern Ontario bus trek.

Combining two game sets with both the Lady Wolves as well as the North Bay Ice Boltz, along with a chance to take in Science North and a few other area venues, the Nepean crew enjoyed an outstanding trip, both on the ice, as well as in the company of their most hospitable hosts.

In Sudbury, the Wildcats swept their games against the Lady Wolves, earning a hard fought 2-1 win Friday afternoon, and following that up with a 4-2 victory early Saturday morning.

Goals by Sara Gunter and Aislyn Blakely were enough to offset a tally from Vanessa McKinnon of the Lady Wolves in the opener, as Nepean scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart in securing the win.

More balanced offensive output for the guests from the nation's capital the next day as Gunter was joined on the scoresheet by Sophia Driscoll, Jordan Chiabai and Jaida Banks.

McKinnon and Lillia Mae Samuels replied in a losing cause for the Lady Wolves, who did manage to earn bragging rights in an all-player shootout competition, outscoring the Wildcats 6-2 in the penalty shot event.
