Greater Sudbury Police Service escorted the first batch of oversized loads for the construction of the Maley Drive Extenison on Aug. 8.

Tractor trailers carrying large I-beams made their way down The Kingsway, through the intersection at Paris and Brady Street and up Notre Dame Avenue.

Traffic disruptions will continue until Aug. 10.

Trucks will arrive in the city at the Southeast Bypass and will occupy the following traffic lanes in stages:

  • One westbound lane on the Kingsway to the Brady Street Extension, with the exception of tight curves that will require both westbound lanes due to the length of the trailer.
  • The intersection of Paris and Brady Streets for a right turn onto Paris Street.
  • One northbound lane on Paris Street from Brady to Elm Street.
  • One northbound lane on Notre Dame Avenue to the Maley Drive construction site.

To avoid peak traffic periods, the trucks will travel during the following hours:

  • Before 7:30 a.m.
  • 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • After 6 p.m.

Greater Sudbury Police, Paramedic and Fire Services are aware of traffic delays and plans are in place for emergencies.

The trucks are carrying concrete bridge girders for construction of an interchange to connect a new four-lane road from Lasalle Boulevard West, near Collège Boréal, to Barrydowne Road as part of Phase One of the Maley Drive Extension.
