She's vice-president of the Canadian Catholic Schools Trustees' Association, which promotes and protects the right to Catholic education in Canada.

Last spring, she was elected president of the Ontario Catholic Schools Trustees'Association, the official voice for Catholic school boards in Ontario.

A few months later, when George Middleton stepped down as chair of the Sudbury District Catholic School Board, Peroni, who had been serving as vice-chair, automatically became chair.

"It's always a pleasure to be chair of this board," she said. "I absolutely love every day of it."

One issue Peroni will be watching closely is the idea of having one school system instead of separate systems for Catholic and non-Catholic students.

A Environics survey done before the October 2007 election found 48 per cent of Ontarians supported the extension of funding to schools of all religious denominations, 44 per cent opposed it and eight per cent were undecided.

Peroni said she's "uncomfortable" with the idea of a single system.
