Greater Sudbury Police Chief Paul Pedersen will speak at a chamber of commerce luncheon next week on the topic of the future of policing.

A release from the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce says Pedersen will talk about policing and what drives costs for forces at both the national and local level.

“He will also discuss GSPS investments in the community and the importance of a shared commitment model,” the release said. “The chief of police will also address how modernizing service delivery in the City of Greater Sudbury can be beneficial.”

The talk will be held March 25 from noon until 2 p.m., with Pedersen scheduled to begin his address at 12:50 p.m. It takes place at the Holiday Inn on Regent Street and is sponsored by Eastlink Business and the United Way Sudbury & Nipissing Districts.

Pedersen has been chief since May 5, 2014. He has more than 34 years of experience in policing, having served with Investigative Services and Community Services with the York Regional Police Service.

He holds a Master of Public Administration from Western University along with a Diploma in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University.

“Paul is a proponent for change and innovation,” the chamber release said. “He is a strong advocate for community policing and described Sudbury's new policing model also known as 'The Nickel' as a full circle approach to community safety and well-being.”
