Pedestrian trail still closed, says city

A pedestrian trail between Kelly Lake Road and Martindale Road remains closed until further notice by the City of Greater Sudbury due to unstable ground conditions.
A pedestrian trail between Kelly Lake Road and Martindale Road remains closed until further notice by the City of Greater Sudbury due to unstable ground conditions.

The city said soil conditions along the creek bank have eroded, creating deep fissures on the path’s surface and a hazard to people using the path.

The city’s contractors have applied crushed rock to the base of the Junction Creek bank to slow the rate of erosion. Wastewater, from a section of sanitary sewer trunk main, has been diverted around the affected area as a precaution, in the event that the main becomes damaged as a result of shifting soils.

The city is currently completing an Environmental Assessment to identify the preferred long-term solution to replace a section of sanitary sewer main between Kelly Lake and Martindale Roads.

Trail updates will be issued as they become available.
