You haven't heard the last of Paula Peroni.

The Progressive Conservative candidate for the Nickel Belt riding captured 18.3 per cent of the votes, or a total of 5,625 votes. Provincially, the Tories captured 37 seats.

“I feel good,” Peroni said as she watched the polls roll in. “Our team worked hard, we delivered our message well and consistently, and the people have spoken, and we respect that.”

Peroni commended her team for their hard work throughout the campaign. It took a lot of effort from a very dedicated group of people to make a run for the title of member of provincial parliament.

“I had very committed volunteers who stayed with me throughout the whole thing,” she said. “It's very difficult for volunteers, because campaigns are very demanding. Families today have a lot more going on in their lives, and moms and dads are busy with their children. Volunteers are not easy to come by, but we had some great people working with us.”

For the past several years, Nickel Belt has not been getting what Nickel Belt deserves, Peroni said as to why she ran for office, and having an MPP who isn't on the side of the governing party means Nickel Belt will continue to be left out of the big decisions, she said.

“Nickel Belt does not get the announcements, the opportunities, the project or the new initiatives we feel we should have been getting for the past 10 years. I'm hoping to change that at some point.”

Going into the election, Peroni said she knew it was going to be an uphill battle, and she and her supporters plan to continue their quest.
“Will you see me in the next election? You certainly will.”
