Police arrest man for April 1 Sexual Assault in Sudbury’s Uptown

Greater Sudbury police have arrested a suspect in an April 1 incident in which a person was reportedly forced inside a residence by a stranger and sexually assaulted.

A 31-year-old man was arrested by police and charged with Sexual Assault at approximately 3 p.m. on April 5. 

The man will be held in police custody overnight and will attend court on Saturday.

The man’s name is not being released at this time as the information has not been sworn through the court process.

“Due to the sensitive nature of this matter and to protect the identity of the survivor, no further details will be provided,” police reported in a media release issued today. 

“We would like to thank the community for the cooperation throughout this investigation and for the ongoing dedication and commitment to community safety and well-being.”

Police were told that around 9:30 p.m. on April 1, a person was outside of their residence in the area of Baker Street, Montcalm Avenue, Patterson Street and MacKenzie Street  when they were confronted by an unknown individual.

An altercation took place, and the assailant forced the person inside the residence. The suspect reportedly assaulted, threatened and then sexually assaulted the person inside the residence before fleeing the area.

To protect the identity of the community member, police said no further information related to their identity will be provided. The suspect and victim were not known to each other.
