Greater Sudbury police are working to investigate Wednesday night’s fire in Capreol, which injured three volunteer firefighters.
Detectives in the Major Crime Section of the GSPS Criminal Investigation Division are working in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause of the January 24 fire.
Local detectives are also working in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour due to the injuries sustained by the three volunteer firefighters.
Firefighters were blasting water through the front door of the building when another door to the building was opened and "there was a smoke explosion, knocking the firefighters in front of the building to the ground," Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Craig Lawrence said last night.
The blast resulted in three firefighters from the first two responding stations receiving non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to Health Sciences North in stable condition.
Sudbury.com has sought an update on these firefighters' condition and will publish a report as soon as more is known.
Emergency personnel were called to the residential fire at a four-plex in Capreol at approximately 7:28 p.m., according to Lawrence, and police were dispatched just before 7:45 p.m., according to the GSPS media release.
