Police seek information on Jan. 13 alleged assault

An unknown person allegedly punched someone in the head, causing them to fall backward into the street while attempting to get into a taxi on Jan. 13

Greater Sudbury police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down a suspect in an alleged assault that took place on Jan. 13.

Police learned about the assault three days later, at which time they were told that it took place at around 2:10 a.m. on Jan. 13 outside of an establishment in Cedar Street. The alleged victim was attempting to get into a taxi when the unknown man reportedly punched him in the head, causing him to fall backward into the street.

The man suffered minor injuries from the incident.

The suspect is described as approximately 30 years of age, tall with a slim build and a long dark beard. He was wearing an orange-hooded sweatshirt with a black design, blue jeans and an orange toque at the time of the incident.

Police have shared video surveillance footage of the seconds leading up to the alleged assault, however, the taxi in the video blocks the view of the altercation.

Having “exhausted all investigative avenues to identify the unknown individual involved in the incident,” police are now requesting the public’ assistance in identifying the suspect.

Anyone with information related to the individual’s identity or the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer at 705-923-6013.
