Earthquakes Canada has confirmed there was an earthquake near Sudbury on Sunday afternoon.
The event's magnitude was 2.8, and it occurred at 2:17 p.m. Information on the earthquake is now posted on the Earthquakes Canada website.
"Given the location it may be related to mining activity, but we do not yet have confirmation," seismologist Allison Bent said in an email to Sudbury.com.
A spokesperson for Vale said the company is looking into the matter.
If you felt the earthquake, you're encouraged to fill out a report on Earthquakes Canada's website.
Bent did not provide any information on the possible seismic event on Saturday, but we've asked for more information.

Sudburians have taken to social media to report a rumble that occurred at around 2:17 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Sudbury.com currently has no information on what occurred, although we have inquiries into Earthquakes Canada and Vale.
Pubicly available seismogram information for the Sudbury area does indeed seem to show a jump in seismic activity at the time the rumble was felt locally.
There were also reports on social media of another possible seismic event occurring in the area Saturday afternoon.
