Updated at 12:37 p.m.: The unplanned outage in the Moonlight/Bancroft/Southlane area has been resolved, Greater Sudbury Utilities is reporting.

Greater Sudbury Hydro needed to do a quick troubleshoot test of that part of the grid in the wake of last Friday's lightning strike and subsequent outage. Unfortunately, what should have been a momentarily "blip" found more trouble than initially expected.

A switch, which is suspected to have been struck by lightning on Friday, literally fell apart, forcing crews to replace it.

GSU apologized for the inconvenience in a news release, adding it was critical that the troubleshooting on the affected piece of the grid be performed as it is the back-up power route for Health Sciences North.
