Public Health Sudbury reports no new COVID-19 cases July 28

There are now seven active cases being monitored by local health officials in the Sudbury District

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has reported no new cases of COVID-19 in the local jurisdiction for July 28. The health unit is also reporting there are now seven active cases being monitored.  

Also, since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases just over 16 months ago, there have been 2,183 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 2,176 of those cases are now resolved. There are also now 999 cases that are "confirmed or presumed to be" for variants of concern; an increase of one since the last testing report on Tuesday.

PHSD also reported general demographics about the people who are becoming infected. There were no changes from Tuesday’s data.

Epidemiological data showed that the majority of local cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 716 total cases (no increase).

The next highest group number was 547 cases for the 40 to 59 age group (no increase).

The next highest number was 523 cases for the 19 and under age group (no increase).

Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group amounted to 302 cases total (no increase). 

People aged 80 and over are currently the lowest category with 95 cases (no increase).

With respect to COVID-19 testing, 268,118 tests have been performed in the PHSD region; an increase of 264 since the last testing results reported Tuesday.

As for local vaccinations, PHSD reported a cumulative total of 230,886 vaccines given in the entire PHSD area. There are also 101,563 local residents who are now fully vaccinated.  

PHSD has also reported there are no current outbreaks declared in any local settings.

Also, at Sudbury's Health Sciences North, as of July 26 there is one patient with confirmed COVID-19 at the hospital, said the HSN website. That person is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). In addition to this there are seven admitted patients "being tested" for COVID-19. HSN said one of the patients being tested has been admitted to the ICU at this time. The other six are being cared for in other units at HSN. 

On the provincial COVID-19 register today, the Ontario government daily website reported 158 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported four new deaths had occurred in the past 24 hours.
